The Sulwath Connections grant will enable us to make much-needed improvements to three of our existing reserves.

At Ken-Dee Marshes we will extend the area of open water in front of the hides to provide a better wildlife spectacle for visitors. An all-access elevated boardwalk will be created to the first hide. We will remove silt that is reducing the wildlife value of the wetland area and use it to create islands, one of which will be capped with gravel to provide a tern nesting site. We also plan to build an artificial sand martin colony.

At Wood of Cree we will repair stone dykes to stop livestock entering the woodland. We will clear out drainage ditches; provide machinery access to allow management on part of the marshes.
At Mull of Galloway we will employ a Community Liaison Officer to manage the visitor centre and organise voluntary wardens, plan and lead a series of guided walks both on and off the reserve, monitor the breeding seabird colony and liaise with neighbours, local businesses and the community trust.
