The River Annan and its tributaries provide some of the best most productive Salmon and Sea Trout fishing in Scotland.
The Annan and Kirtle habitat improvement project hopes to keep this important recreational and economic resource in good order for future generations to enjoy by undertaking work to fence off river banks to reduce livestock poaching, restoring eroding river banks with environmentally friendly protection together with tree and shrub planting to help increase shade and insects in the water.
The project will also help to educate and inform people about the value and enjoyment to be had from this exciting water catchment.
To date around 30000m of fencing have been completed or agreed with 6000 riparian trees also planted. The watercourses involved in these projects include the main-stem Annan, Corrie Water, Water of Milk, Moffat Water, Kinnel Water and Kirtle Water. Examples of recently completed work are shown below.
Interpretation boards are also to be located in the Forest of Ae displaying different stages of the salmon life-cycle.
